Top Ten Things To Do in Bandung, Indonesia

The following is a sponsored post by Ailish in Wonderland

The sprawling mass of Bandung, one of Indonesia’s largest cities, contrasts sharply with the surrounding green hills and volcanic craters. But this mix of urban and rural is what makes Banding such an appealing destination. From hiking in the surrounding hills to shopping on cosmopolitan streets, there’s something for everyone. Here are our top ten things to do in and around Bandung, Indonesia.

1. Explore the surrounding tea plantations

The area surrounding Bandung is littered with scenic tea plantations. The Malabar Tea Estate is a popular choice for those who want to explore these plantations and see the tea pickers at work. A guide is not essential, though it is useful if you want to learn more about the tea-making processes and the surrounding nature.

2. Shop at Cihampelas Walk & Paris Van Java

There are countless places to shop in Bandung, so it may be wise to narrow down your options, particularly if you’re short on time. Cihampelas Walk is an open-air mall packed with modern shops and cafes. Another popular choice is Paris Van Java (or PVJ as it’s sometimes called). This mall contains a whopping 5,000 square metres of shops, with plenty of places to sit and recharge when you run out of steam.

3. Feed the deer at Ranca Upas, Ciwidey

Ranca Upas is a large conservation area south of Bandung city, where visitors can get in touch with nature, and explore the rare flora. Camping facilities are available for those who really want to escape the city. Best of all, the area is home to a herd of deer, who are unafraid of visitors and can be fed by hand.

4. Marvel at Kawah Putih Lake

Just a short distance from Ranca Upas lies the beautiful Kawah Putih, a deep turquoise lake inside a dormant volcanic crater. The lake makes for a stunning sight, particularly on cloudy days, where the water becomes shrouded in mist.

The best way to get to both Kawah Putih and Ranca Upas is by hiring your own transportation. Renting a motorbike is the cheapest option, though for those who would rather not drive, a motorcycle taxi can be hired for a reasonable price.

5. Stay at the Mercure Bandung

Located in the Setiabudi neighbourhood, the Mercure is the perfect base to explore the sights of Bandung. This luxurious hotel offers a stunning view of the city. It also offers a wide range of amenities, including a heated pool and massages. Perfect for unwinding after a hard day of hiking or shopping! Find out more at

6. Hike to Mount Tangkuban Perahu

Tangkuban Perahu is an active volcano with four craters continually emitting sulphur. You can take a vehicle to the top, or you can hike along the trail. A guide is essential, and tours can be arranged in Bandung.

Featuring a bamboo playground, flower-filled gardens, and educational activities, this park is perfect for those travelling with children.

8. Try some local dishes at the floating market

The floating market in Lembang offers the chance to explore traditional houses as well as fun activities such as go kart racing. Best of all, it’s a great place to try a range of Indonesian dishes, which are sold from food stalls in the form of small boats.

9. Ride horses at De’Ranch in Lembang

Horse lovers will feel right at home in De’Ranch, which offers affordable and unlimited horse rides. Riders can even channel their inner cowboy and dress in costume.

10. Soak in a hot spring

After tackling the numerous hiking trails, endless shopping streets, horse rides, and other physical activities that Bandung has to offer, the only thing left to do is to sink into one of the nearby hot springs. Here, you can unwind and let the naturally heated water relax your aching muscles. Or, if you’ve still not had enough action, try one of the waterparks instead!
